For all our Red Dead Redemption 2 game lovers, here is the best, most accurate, and all inclusive fishing guide to help with your fishing questions and finding those hard to find rare catches. Fishing on Red Dead Redemption 2 online is not only relaxing, as long as you are not getting griefed, but it is still the best way to grind out some cash. I wanted to make a fishing guide that included everything : from best spots, to what lure to use, to how much you can make from each fish. So here we go. I will list the fish in alphabetical order with our cash grinding price guide at the bottom.
The Spinner is a must-have for every angler. Fish in a wide array of environments find this special spinner completely irresistible. This can be used in any body of water, lake, swamp, or river. The spinner is used instead of bait. It is not exclusive to one type of fish or water location. Let’s say you find a lake and want to see what fish live within and do not want to use the swamp lure, just use the spinner and see what comes up ! Do not forget to pop eagle eye.
Bluegill can be found in many places. To many to list so I have picked my favorite spot to catch them which also happens to be my favorite spot for Lake Sturgeon.
You can hold 10 of theses in your satchel.
They sell for $0.75 which is a total of $7.50.
Live Crickets or Cheese are the best baits for these common fishing finds.
Bullhead Catfish sell for $0.75 and you can hold 10 so $7.50 in total. Corn bread or bread works well as bait, but at this spot you can find most just on the mud. You can also catch some Bluegill and Chain Pickerel with the corn bread bait at this spot. This is the best spot as well for Longnose Gar and Channel Catfish.
Use the Bullhead Catfish spot above with corn bread or bread bait for Chain Pickerel. They sell for $1.00 each and you can hold 10 equaling $10.00.
The same spot above for Bullhead Catfish and Chain Pickerel is also the best spot for Channel Catfish. They just wash up on shore. You will want to have an extra horse with you to load up two at a time. The Special Swamp Lure is the way to go in this spot. The Channel Catfish sell for $5.00 for a 3 star.
The Lake Sturgeon can be found by the dozen at this location, all 3 stars. A 3 star will sell for $7.25 . The River Lure or Special River Lure works best at this spot. Bring an extra horse. This location is nice and convenient to the Rhodes butcher making it a great spot.
There are a couple really good spots for the Largemouth Bass, but at this particular spot you can catch a plethora of other fish and load up on a very nice money making amount. Pardon my goofy face, I was live streaming when I took this snap shot. The Largemouth Bass sell for $2.00 each. You can hold 10 earning you a total of $20.00.
In the same spot as the Channel Catfish, the Longnose Gar at this location go belly up on the shore and are always 3 star. The Longnose Gar 3 star sell for $5.00 each. Special Swamp lure or Swamp Lure works great.
You can find 3 star Muskie up in this spot; use the River Lure or Special River lure. These sell for $7.75. I would recommend bringing an extra horse. This is also a good spot for some Perch and Bluegill, just switch out your lure to the Special Spinner or bread to fill your satchel full of these guys.
Perch are a little fish that you can just straight reel in. Bread works very well as bait as does the Special Spinner. You can also get these near the Sockeye Salmon by Cumberland Falls. The perch are all over, this was just a good spot that we liked best for some easy catch. Perch sell for $1 and you can carry 10, so that is $10.00 in total.
You can make $240+ in one hour doing here. I made $240 (plus there was a two star buck just chilling there one time which I bagged quickly and ran to the butcher). So I made $246 in one hour. This was at pretty much maximum efficiency using one horse….full gallops everywhere…leaving horse right next to the river…and catching a pike on the first cast every time.
Red Fin Pickerel
These little darlings sell for $1.00 each, and, in this spot, the Special spinner works well to catch them. You can carry 10 which will make you $10.00. They spawn in the day time.
The Rock Bass sell for $1.00 each and you can hold 10 which will earn you a nice $10.00 dollars. There are many other fish here as well. In 20 minutes of fishing you can catch about 1o Rock Bass, 10 Bluegill, 5 Redfin Pickeral, and 7 chain Pickeral. You can also catch Largemouth Bass here just switch to a Lake Lure and you fill your satchel in no time. These were ALL CAUGHT ON CHEESE BAIT! Just stand on the end of the dock and use eagle eye to spot the fish you want and try to cast near them. After I had caught 6 rock bass, there were no longer any left there….so I turned to the side and cast at some different fish, and caught those for a minute or so, then turned back straight out into the lake, and there were more rock bass. Cheese bait did work the best. there was a number of Geese in this spot as well and it is also a peaceful place to fish away from disruptive players with not much action goes on up this way. All in all, a great, beautiful spot.
This great little spot has a ton of Smallmouth Bass which you can catch with the Lake Lure. It is also a good location for Western Bull Frogs a sometimes daily item as well as Burdock Root all around the Island. Smallmouth sell for $2.00 and you can hold 10 earning you a total of $20.00.
Sockeye Salmon are great fish to grind for. They sell for $2.50, and you can hold 10, which will earn you $25.00. Nice right? At this spot the River Lure or Special river Lure works best. You can grind out a ton of good fishing on the Dakota River and fill your satchel. Down below there is a map for some great locations of Dakota River fishing spots that can help you make a great cash.
Steelhead Trout is another great fish to catch. They sell for $2.50 each, and you can hold 10, earning you $25.00. The Special River Lure works best. Now, there are some more great spots for this was just one of my favorites. Flat Iron Lake near the mouth of the Dakota River is another great spot. For that spot, use the Lake Lure or Special Lake Lure.
Fishing Money Grind
This is one of the best ways to earn some good money on Red Dead Redemption. You can go up from Flat Iron Lake up the Dakota river and fill your satchel. You can earn $90.00 from filling your satchel with the 4 different fish named on the map. You can also go grab a northern pike (or two if you bring another horse) at the spot we marked above for the Northern Pike (which is pretty darn close to the Sockeye Salmon spot). This would earn you a whopping $106.
The Honey Hole
You can find a nice variety and selection of fish in this spot. A few stranger missions will have you close to this area, so if you are near and riding the clock, go kill some time and grab a satchel full.
